Ingredients

4 large croissants

8 slices of deli ham

8 slices of Swiss cheese

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Croissants: Carefully slice each croissant in half lengthwise, making sure not to cut all the way through (like a book).

Spread Mustard: On the inside of each croissant half, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard for a zesty kick.

Layer Filling: Place 2 slices of deli ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese on the bottom half of each croissant. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and sprinkle with chopped chives if desired.

Reassemble: Close each croissant carefully, pressing down gently to hold the filling in place.

Brush with Butter: Using a pastry brush, generously brush the tops of the croissants with the melted butter. This will give them a rich flavor and golden color as they bake.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the croissants with the beaten egg for a glossy finish on the crust.

Bake: Arrange the filled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious, flaky ham and cheese croissants!
