Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2¼ tsp) instant yeast

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp sugar

1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)

1 large egg

1 tbsp garlic powder

2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tbsp dried parsley)

1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 tsp dried thyme)

1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 tsp dried rosemary)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until well blended.

In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk and melted butter. Allow it to cool slightly, then beat in the egg.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a rough dough forms. If desired, add the garlic powder and fresh herbs at this stage.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can add a bit of flour if it’s too sticky.

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove excess air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

Place the dough balls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish or arrange them on a baking sheet, leaving a little space between each roll.

Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes, until they have puffed up.

Before baking, melt an additional 2 tablespoons of butter and brush the tops of the rolls generously. Sprinkle a little salt, pepper, and more herbs if desired.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove from the oven and brush with more melted butter before serving warm. Enjoy the delightful aroma of buttery garlic herb rolls with your meal!
