1. Unsalted Butter: Butter is a cornerstone of any brownie recipe, and using unsalted butter allows for better control over the overall saltiness of the dish. The fat content in butter contributes to the rich, fudgy texture that we crave in brownies, helping to create that melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

4 large eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the 1 cup of butter. Remove from heat and stir in both the granulated and brown sugars until well combined.

        - Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.

          - Sift together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the buttery mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

            - Fold in the chocolate chips, and pour the brownie mixture into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

              Make the Cookie Layer:

                - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.

                    - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture until just combined.

                      - Stir in the chocolate chips and mix until evenly distributed.

                        Layering the Mix:

                          - Carefully spoon and spread the cookie dough over the brownie layer in the baking pan, ensuring it's evenly distributed across the top. You can use your fingers or the back of a spoon to help spread it out.

                            Bake:

                              - Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (avoid overbaking!).

                                Cool and Serve:

                                  - Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before using the parchment overhang to remove them from the pan. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

                                    - Serve as a delicious dessert or snack, and enjoy the delightful layers of brownie and cookie!
