Ingredients

2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

4 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed

1 cup heavy cream (or buttermilk for a tangy twist)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

Boil the Potatoes and Garlic: In a large pot, combine the potato chunks and smashed garlic cloves. Cover with cold water and add a generous pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Drain and Steam: Once cooked, drain the potatoes and garlic in a colander. Let them sit for a couple of minutes to steam off excess moisture for creamier mashed potatoes.

Mash the Potatoes and Garlic: In the same pot, add the drained potatoes and garlic back in. Use a potato masher or a ricer for an ultra-smooth texture.

Incorporate the Cream and Butter: Gradually stir in the heavy cream and pieces of butter. Continue mashing and mixing until the potatoes are creamy and you achieve your desired consistency.

Season to Taste: Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary.

Serve: Transfer the creamy garlic mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. Garnish with fresh chives if desired, and drizzle a little extra melted butter on top for an indulgent finish. Enjoy!
