Ingredients

For the Chicken Filling:

1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 cup marinara sauce, plus more for serving

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Cooking spray or olive oil for spraying

For the Calzone Dough:

1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken Filling:

    - In a medium-sized bowl, combine the diced chicken with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat evenly.

      - Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.

        - Place the seasoned chicken in the air fryer basket and cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until fully cooked (internal temp should be 165°F/74°C). Shake the basket halfway through for even cooking. Once cooked, remove the chicken and let it cool slightly.

          Mix the Filling:

            - In a large bowl, combine the cooked chicken with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.

              Shape the Calzones:

                - On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a thin sheet. Cut out circles (about 6 inches in diameter) using a large round cutter or a bowl.

                  - Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the chicken filling on one half of each dough circle, leaving space at the edges.

                    Seal the Calzones:

                      - Gently fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Use your fingers to pinch the edges together to seal. Alternatively, you can use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.

                        - Brush or spray the tops of the calzones with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

                          Air Fry the Calzones:

                            - Preheat the air fryer again for a couple of minutes at 375°F (190°C).

                              - Place the calzones in the air fryer basket, making sure they don't touch each other for even cooking (you may need to do this in batches).

                                - Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Flip halfway through cooking for even browning.

                                  Serve:

                                    - Allow the calzones to cool for a few minutes, then serve them warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
