Ingredients

1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme)

Optional: a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prepare the Chickpeas: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). After draining and rinsing the chickpeas, use a clean kitchen towel or paper towel to pat them dry thoroughly. The drier they are, the crunchier they will become!

Seasoning: In a mixing bowl, toss the chickpeas with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and Italian herbs. Ensure the chickpeas are evenly coated with the seasoning mix.

Air Frying: Spread the seasoned chickpeas in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to ensure they crisp up nicely. Air fry them for about 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to promote even crispiness.

Check for Crispiness: After 12 minutes, check for doneness. They should be golden brown and crunchy. If they're not quite there, continue air frying in 2-3 minute increments until desired crispiness is achieved.

Cooling Down: Once done, remove the chickpeas from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes. They will continue to harden slightly as they cool down. Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt or spices if needed.

Serving Suggestions: Use the crunchy chickpea croutons as a delightful salad topping, a healthy snack on their own, or as a crunchy element in grain bowls.
