Ingredients

4 large whole wheat pita bread

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for garnishing

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Pitas: Cut each pita bread into bite-sized squares, about 1 inch in size. You can either cut them into triangles or squares, depending on your preference.

Make the Seasoning Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until the ingredients are well-combined and form a lovely seasoning blend.

Coat the Pita Squares: Add the pita squares to the bowl and toss them in the seasoning mixture until they are evenly coated. Make sure each piece is well-covered to ensure maximum flavor.

Bake the Croutons: Spread the seasoned pita squares evenly onto the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remember to toss them halfway through the baking process to ensure even crispness.

Cool and Garnish: Once baked, remove the croutons from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. If desired, sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese over the warm croutons for added flavor.

Serve or Store: Enjoy your Crunchy Pita Bread Croutons warm on top of salads, soups, or as a light snack. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
