Ingredients

1 pound frozen meatballs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)

2 cups uncooked penne pasta

3 cups marinara sauce (your favorite kind)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups water or low-sodium chicken broth (for cooking pasta)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the baking dish: In a large mixing bowl, combine the frozen meatballs, uncooked penne pasta, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Add sauces: Pour the marinara sauce and water (or chicken broth) over the meatball and pasta mixture. Gently stir until everything is combined.

Layer it up: Spread half of the mixture evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Dollop half of the ricotta cheese over the mixture, and sprinkle with half of the mozzarella cheese.

Finish layering: Add the remaining meatball and pasta mixture on top, followed by the remaining ricotta cheese. Finally, sprinkle the rest of the shredded mozzarella on top.

Cover and bake: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Uncover and brown: After 25 minutes, carefully remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden and the pasta is cooked through.

Garnish and serve: Once baked, take the casserole out of the oven and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, then serve warm and enjoy your delicious meatball magic!
