Ingredients

8 oz (225 g) pasta (fusilli or penne)

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 cup sour cream

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (plus more for topping)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Caramelize the Onions: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Add the minced garlic during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

Brown the Beef: Push the onions to one side and in the same skillet, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Combine Ingredients: To the beef mixture, add the beef broth, sour cream, half of the Gruyère cheese, and the cooked pasta. Stir until well combined and heated through.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the pasta mixture into a greased 9x13 inch (or equivalent) baking dish.

Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining Gruyère and mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, then serve hot and enjoy!
