The ketogenic diet, commonly referred to as the keto diet, is a low-carb, high-fat eating plan that has gained immense popularity in recent years. The primary principle behind keto is to shift the body’s metabolism from burning carbohydrates for energy to burning fats. This metabolic state is known as ketosis, and it occurs when carbohydrate intake is significantly reduced, leading the body to utilize fat stores for energy.

Ingredients

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

2 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup almond flour

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Melt the Cheeses: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella cheese and cream cheese. Microwave on high for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. This usually takes about 1-2 minutes total.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the almond flour, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Mix the Ingredients: Once the cheese mixture is smooth, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, gradually add the dry ingredient mix to the cheese mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

Shape the Dough: Using your hands, form the dough into a large ball. On a lightly almond flour-dusted surface, roll the dough out into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Cut the rectangle into strips approximately 1-2 inches wide and twist each strip into a spiral shape.

Add Toppings: Place the twisted breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet. Brush melted butter over the tops of the breadsticks and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, remove the breadsticks and let them cool slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
