Ingredients

1 large head of green cabbage

1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)

Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Boil for about 5-7 minutes, or until the leaves are tender and pliable. Remove from the pot and drain, then let cool slightly. Carefully peel off 10-12 leaves and set aside.

Cook the Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened. Stir in the cooked rice, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, thyme, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes until everything is well combined.

Assemble the Casserole: In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of the filling mixture on the bottom. Take a cabbage leaf, fill it with a generous spoonful of the meat filling, and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides. Place seam-side down in the baking dish. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling until both are used up.

Add Sauce: Pour any remaining filling on top of the stuffed cabbage rolls in the baking dish. If desired, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top for a cheesy finish.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious stuffed cabbage casserole!
